We had amazing wildlife viewing today, including the T90 and T101 matrilines of Bigg’s (mammal-eating) Killer Whales, Checkmate the Humpback Whale, Pacific Harbour Seals, and Steller Sea Lions.

We received reports of Killer Whales in the area early in the morning and left hopeful that we could track them down. When we finally did spot them we got to see some really interesting behaviour, as members of both matrilines cruised close to the shoreline of a group of small islands, likely looking for potential prey. After spending some time with the Killer Whales we moved further down the strait towards Mitlenatch Island, where we had great views of seals and sea lions. As we started to make our way back home we saw blows not too far from Mitlenatch, and were able to watch Checkmate the Humpback Whale before heading back into dock.
