Sights and Sounds of Discovery Passage

Today’s sightings included at least eight Humpback Whales, Bigg’s (mammal-eating) Killer Whales, Steller Sea Lions, and Pacific Harbour Seals.

Passengers on board got to see some of the amazing wildlife that calls the Discovery Passage home, as well as hear it! Breaching and pectoral fin slapping by the Humpback Whales made huge crashes in the water. A tour past Mitlenatch Island gave us a listen to the growling and rumbling of Steller Sea Lions, as some clambered over rocks (and each other) and others dove into the water. A trip north through Seymour Narrows gave us great views of Killer Whales, and also gave us an idea of how strong the currents are, as all we could hear was the swirling and rushing of water through the small passage.
